Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Is Vesey.. what.. the sixth guy in the last decade or so to do this? Is the best NHLer (of the guys whose original teams weren't compensated) Justin Schultz or am I missing someone? Blake Wheeler is probably the highest profile player to do this... the Canucks signed Billy Sweatt (Chicago 2nd round...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

The strange thing about Calgary is they have essentially the same team that made the playoffs last season... Out: Byron Glencross (traded at deadline) Diaz In: Frolik Bennett Hamilton Plus they have Giordano back from injury... You'd think that swapping Byron, Glencross, and Diaz for Frolik, Bennett...

I think an equivalent on the Canucks is Hamhuis - this contract may set the price.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

This is a VERY risky contract. Far too much and far to long for a player whose career year is likely behind him and whose dropoff is likely to be above average. I consider this contract to be a boat anchor. I wonder if he got a NMC too? I can see Flames fans looking at this as a TDL dump next year ...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Was just looking at the situation in Edmonton - man, ever since the Pronger trade kicked off a rebuild after the 2006 Stanley Cup Final appearance, it has been a lot of high picks and one rebuild after another... July 3, 2006 To Edmonton: Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid, 2007 1st round pick (later trad...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Blackhawks get Mashinter from Rangers for Beach Well, Chicago has officially given up on Kyle Beach - remember him? There was talk that the Canucks were considering drafting Beach in 2008 but took Hodgson instead... good move. Chicago sent Beach to Sweden on a tryout when he didn't make the NHL clu...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Although as things play out this year I'm pretty happy we have Lou still. One more regular season win, and Luongo ties Rogatien Vachon for 16th place on the All-Time NHL List. He just keeps racking up wins despite not wanting to be here, coaching changes, and equipment changes - he's the most profe...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Was Kovalchuk really a that special? His play definitely doesn't deserve the coin he was gettingI guarantee you Lou is happier now to be out if that contract. The Brodeur era is ending, perfect time for a rebuild in NJ. Poor Corey Hahaha - every time Washington came to town, suddenly Kovalchuk was ...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Maybe Hodgson but can any of those compare to trading Edler? Ballard now does not look like a big trade but an overpayment. All the above really were spare parts for spare parts. Hodgson... but you don't consider trading any 1st round pick to be a big trade? Or acquiring Ehrhoff? You and I obviousl...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

3) MG in all his time here has not made any big trades (sometimes this is hard to do in the current NHL) I consider the following to be "big" trades: 2nd/3rd for Steve Bernier White/Rahimi for Ehrhoff/Lukowich Grabner/Bernier/1st for Ballard/Oreskovich Samuelsson/Sturm for Booth Hodgson/Sulzer for ...

Hahaha - it has gotten so that the better posters at CalgaryPuck don't even post in any Canuck related thread any more, so if you read one, all you get is a steady stream of their worst members.

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

Conversation at the Season Ticket Holders Meeting with Feaster and Ken King... Random Calgary fan: Hey, how are we supposed to feel good about ourselves and bash our opposition if we are not good enough to make the playoffs every year? King: We are confident that you'll keep it up anyway, despite ou...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

I find the happenings around the Flames pretty funny - anyone else? Brent Sutter is "parting ways" with the Flames - that's oh so... feminine. :) No "firing" or "failing" to make the playoffs there... And they kept Hartsburg! Ladies and Gemtlemen, (I'm guessing) your next coach of the Calgary Flames...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

The only teams bidding for Iginla would be contenders. He is UFA and a bottom feeder is not going to give up a high draft pick for a rental. So that means any draft picks coming back would probably be bottom 10. Capgeek has him UFA in summer 2013, so teams have to consider his $7M cap hit next seas...
