Re: Kesler resigned

Burrows at $2M was a bargain at the time. Now it is an absolute steal. It is very much my argument that Burrows is worth a hell of a lot more than 2 million, Doc. I'm saying at the point he signed his deal he was about a 30 point guy who would score 15 goals and check well. Everything that happened...

Re: Kesler resigned

The Samuelsson comparsion is apt, IMO. I don't see Raymond getting as much or more than $2.5M given that it is his first 20 goal season, and while promising, he isn't as proven as Samuelsson. Burrows doesn't factor in for the reasons given, we signed him to a 4-year, $8M deal as a third-liner with s...

Re: Canucks Sign Jordan Schroeder

How any one with a straight face complain about Hansen makes me wonder. He was drafted in the 9th round 287th over all, I think there was only 9 rounds in that draft and he was second from last over all......and people express disappointment. I think it's a wonder he is where he is. That year, 2004...

Re: Kesler resigned

I don't know how this can be seen as overpaid, if what we were hoping for was around $4M-ish, take a look at some contracts in that range that I found on another site discussing the value of second-line players: Daymond Langkow - 4.5M Kristian Huselius - 4.75M Mike Fisher - 4.2M Pierre Marc Bouchard...

Re: Edler's performance: is there consensus?

Hasn't been an amazing year for Edler, but as others say here, he's only 23 -- still pretty young for a defenseman to really blossom. He's well-rounded: offensive, intelligent, calm (maybe too calm), fairly athletic, plays in all situations. And the coaching staff are giving him top minutes -- 25 i...

Re: Canucks Sign Jordan Schroeder

Was only comparing to Patrick White, where, if he Shroeder busts, GM MG can get us another Erhroff out of him.    Hopefully, except that by now signing Schroeder, he can't be turned into a compensatory 2nd round pick which was what I think the value of trading P...

Re: Canucks Sign Jordan Schroeder

I'm with Sid. He's awfully small they said the same thing about Cliff Ronning and Theo Fleury And Martin St. Louis...I'd take him any day of the week. I agree that size should be looked at as a detriment, just like a big guy definitely has that working in his favor, but we shouldn't put undue weigh...

Re: Canucks Sign Jordan Schroeder

I have to say, I'm not at all a fan of college kids, at least in the first round. I've done zero research, but I struggle to see how a college hockey program is going to match the whl / ohl from a development standpoint. Less games, and there's all that time in class and doing college things. Colle...

Re: What's up with Willie?

If Kesler stays for $5M, and Raymond for $2.1M, given minimum raises for RFA's like Hansen and Glass and a slight raise for O'Brien with Grabner taking up Demitra's spot, Hodgson taking Wellwood's spot and Bolduc or some other near-minimum guy replacing Johnson and us dropping Mitchell, we're basica...

Re: What's up with Willie?

I'd agree that Mitchell, certainly at his current price, isn't worth bringing back next year given concerns I have with his age and decline, and now his head issues. That said, I do think there is huge value in a strong shut-down defenseman, I think there's a difference between a simple "stay at hom...

Re: Is Vancouver Ready ?

Good article here that mentions the Glendale location issue: The Globe & Mail reported this month that an unnamed investment banker pegged the Coyotes value at $50 million in the current economic and financing environment, noting that the Phoenix market has been rattled by the recession and that fan...

Re: Is Vancouver Ready ?

Not that I think there will or should be a team in Surrey, the whole Glendale thing is rather amusing. It's really not that far away from Phoenix itself and do we forget the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL also play in Glendale at the University of Phoenix Stadium? Glendale is a nice community, and ac...

Re: Is This The Best Canucks Team ever?

Tough, tough call. WCE was a formidable top line, and don't forget that we had a pretty sweet defensive lineup with Jovo and Ohlund, and Salo in there as well. Probably one of the top three in the league. But the team was top-heavy and weak in net. The Ronning-Linden-Courtnall line was a pretty good...

Re: Is Vancouver Ready ?

I'm 100% with you on this, but they are enough homes for these teams that it'll be a while before Vancouver gets a look at for a second team in this market. Bummer that Hamilton lies within the 50 miles of Toronto, but that's still way more plausible than Vancouver, and there's still Winnipeg, Queb...
