Re: Canucks select Bo Horvat with the #9 pick

It's exciting to see Horvat and Shinkaruk off to a good start, Horvat, in particular. I don't think Shinkaruk has much to prove offensively in the WHL, but it would definitely be nice for Horvat to dominate offensively in the OHL and prove some of his doubters wrong. Close to a goal a game pace? I d...

Re: Canucks select Bo Horvat with the #9 pick

Gaunce need more then a better first step. He isn't physical at all, and there is very little pace to his game. The guys doesn't have the offensive game to play in the top 6 and I don't know of any good bottom 6 centres who aren't physical and play at the plodding pace that Gaunce does. Was nice th...

Re: Hansen Extended: 4 Years, $10M

I love this signing. This is a much better deal than Higgins' given Hansen's age and durability (touch wood). Hansen is a keeper. I'm not a fan of having Hansen with the Sedins and I'm not sold on Hansen being a full-time 2nd line producer, but I love having Hansen on the team. He deserves this exte...

Re: Luongo and Schneider Revisited (or is it continued?)

I think the Cup run kind of saved Kirk McLean from truly being run out of town. Before the Cup run McLean barely had a season where he was the undisputed #1. Anyone remember Corey Hirsch, Troy Gamble, and even Kay Whitmore? There was at least a time where each of those goalies looked like they were ...

Re: The Glass is Half Empty....

Murray would simply make the backend a lot bigger and nastier... As slow as Murray is, I would still take him over Albert or Fistric. Edler and Murray would be a perfect marriage. Two big guys who can hit hard. One brings offense and the other brings solid defense. Sounds good on paper, but teams m...

Re: Canucks select Bo Horvat with the #9 pick

Have you ever actually looked at what top NHL forwards do in Junior statistically? I'll give you a hint since you seem kind of slow. They score WAY more points than Horvat has. You guys are making a projected second-line (at best) center sound like the second coming of Ryan Getzlaf. That's why I'm ...

Re: Canucks buy Peoria Rivermen - AHL

Island Nucklehead, I don't think FAN is complaining about the two-way deals per se, I think he is just suggesting that a lot of these guys will never see one of those two pay grades so it's pointless to have them occupying a contract spot. You have to build a competitive farm team in order...

Re: Chris TANEV - what the deal is?

Hearing that Tanev will re-sign here. Term is a sticking point, not cap. Canucks want a little longer term Tanev camp wants to be able to test FA when his time comes. Obviously can't guarantee it but sounds like things are going well and Tanev wants to remain and the Canucks obviously want him back...

Re: Canucks buy Peoria Rivermen - AHL

I'm well aware. I just see a lot of complaining (not on this board) about how every contract is two-way when the canucks are not in danger of limiting their flexibility within those 50 contracts. It will happen (and apparently now has) but given the number of expired contracts that they had I'd rat...

The Canucks are unlikely to win the division but they will be in the playoffs if the team's top players stay healthy.

Re: Canucks buy Peoria Rivermen - AHL

Yes and...??? 50 is 22 or 23 NHL roster players and then 27 or 28 more. Enough for an entire AHL team and then some. I believe those two put them at 40 (counting Gaunce). Plenty of flexibility yet. Umm... the rules say that 50 is enough to field and NHL and AHL roster. But many teams, including the...

Re: Canucks buy Peoria Rivermen - AHL

Have the "Comets" and not the Canucks sign any players yet? All these players that Canucks have signed to two-way contracts count towards the 50 contract limit don't they?

Re: Handling the Prospects Correctly

I suggested Horvat may be able to play based on the size and strength of the kid. He's 6 ft 1 and 210 as an 18 year old and he's built like a linebacker. He has good hands seems to be a real strong 2 way player and he is apparently a beast in the faceoff circle. I'm not saying he will make the team...

Re: Handling the Prospects Correctly

I think Jensen will shuffle between the AHL and NHL a few times but don't expect him to make much of a consistent impact until 2014-2015. Haven't seen much of Lain, but I somehow doubt a player with minimal pro-experience will win an every-day job out of camp. It will probably be a transitional sea...

Re: Handling the Prospects Correctly

I agree. I'm not in favor of rushing prospects with offensive upside and I would certainly send Horvat back unless he surprises at camp and in the preseason. It's different with a guy like Gaunce who has had another year of development in the OHL. Will his offensive development really be hurt by not...
