Re: Canucks 2019-2020 line-up

I'm wondering... with surplus of forwards, could Jim trade 2-for-1 forwards for defencemen? Are there any teams that need forward depth that would give a serviceable d-man in exchange? He could essentially 'overpay' to get the deal done. If some of these guys might get lost to waivers anyway, at le...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

This was organization was a tire fire just a few years ago. Now they are (IMO) the rebuild closest to making a serious run. That's an interesting thought, and an interesting way of looking at the rebuilds. Elite talent makes a world of difference. There are only so many players that can make up a c...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Their rebuild was held back for years for lack of elite talent. Then MacKinnon went from a 50 point player to a 100 point player and Rantanen showed up as an 80 point player. But you're right, they don't have any bad contracts - because their stars looked mediocre coming out of their ELCs (come on ...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Well, yeah, but they also had like 5 career years in the roster last season, which got them squeaking on to the playoffs and to the 2nd round for the first time in a decade. They could have 1 injury and wind up out of the playoffs. They do have a ton of flexibility with only five forwards currently...

Re: Canucks News n Notes 2019-2020

On Hutton: A year ago, it seemed a foregone conclusion that he wouldn't be tendered. After last season, he's done enough to possibly have enough value to a team. I think the max on him is $3.5 -- any arbitration award over $3.5 and the Canucks could walk away (if arbitration was initiated by the pl...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Soderberg to Coyotes for Connauton and a 3rd. Connauton is filler -- will slot in somewhere between 6-8 on the Avs depth chart. This is little more than a salary dump -- but not a necessary dump. No one is in better position than the Avs with respect to the cap. Rantanan is about to get paid. But ev...

Re: 2019 NHL ENTRY DRAFT - Vancouver

Can you or anyone else here give me some examples where a perennial rebuilding/non playoff team traded their first rounder for a veteran player not named Gretzky and benefitted long term? Can you give some examples of a perennial rebuilding/non playoff team trading their first rounder for a veteran...

Re: Canucks 2019-2020 line-up

Hutton showed he can survive as the #1, 25-minute dman. He didn't thrive, and the team suffered for having him in that role, but he was at least a warm body. What's that worth? Maybe $3 million? I feel like we need a dman like that, and at least Hutton still has some upside to improve, especially a...

Re: 2019 NHL ENTRY DRAFT - Vancouver

Yeah but nobody in their right mind would trade Horvat for Miller. Miller is a decent piece but Tampa needed to shed salary. Let them sweat a little and bring the price down. The roster and organization is still riddled with holes. You don’t trade 1st rounders in the middle of a rebuild. A player's...

Re: 2019 NHL ENTRY DRAFT - Vancouver

Weighing in on the draft and the Miller trade.... (1) It really shows you what a steal it was to get Pearson for Gudbrandson.... Both have similar offensive production upsides, but Miller can be used in all situations and at any position. Miller has the wheels; Pearson is more opportunistic. (2) It ...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

I saw on twitter one 'reporter' post a hypothetical trade as: Horvat and 10 OV for Barrie and 4 OV, with the caption 'would you do it?' Yeah, that would be a tough trade to turn down. Again, not targeting Barrie here because I am not sold on the solution, but if Horvat goes to Colorado, Jost become...
