Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

I’m honestly wondering which team in the Pacific that Vancouver can finish ahead of. Maybe the Coilers? I think that's a topic worthy of its own thread. The first one that jumps out of LA, which got a lot of career years out of old, declining players last year to squeak into the playoffs and only m...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

Totally wouldn't be surprised if Tavares meets with the canucks, as we're the perfect foil to drive up his market value. And what a relief that we don't have "grit" in the pipeline, that would be a total waste of draft picks and development time. Yes because players who have toughness and skill are...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Duncan Keith, who I consider the prototypical mobile yet tough, skilled yet hard-hitting, modern defenceman, it's 6'1 , 192 lbs.

For an 18 year old to play at 200 lbs is frankly freakish. He has to be thicc to play at that weight.

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Apparently the Canuck brass were not impressed with Hughes after their sit down interview/meet with him at the combine. Curious as to why? This is hard to reconcile in light of their eventual pick. Something change their minds? Smokescreen rumour? Not expecting him to be available, and preparing th...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

If Karlsson is the return, then I have zero problem with the 2019 1st bring in play. Ottawa has no first next year, and desperately needs one. Canucks will at the very least vault out of the lottery, if not into the playoffs, with Karlsson. I would also gladly take Anderson off their hands. He has 2...

Islanders clean up

Two players I’d have no problem with Vancouver taking.
Agreed 100% - and two players I'm glad aren't on the Flames!

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Very happy with the pick, but there are some great players dropping, it's a good day for NYI fans!

How’s that for weaponizing our short term cap space?

While I applaud your savagery in that proposal, the max any player can take is 20% of the Cap, which for next year means $15.9 million is the max salary.

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 17-18 Sponsored by SKYO

In 2014-15, year 1 of the Malkin deal, the Penguins had 30% of their cap tied up in Malkin and Crosby. In 2018-19, they will have 23% of their cap tied up in Malkin and Crosby. I honestly believed that the Pens were too top-heavy and wouldn't be competitive with that much cap in 2 players. Now, they...

Re: 2018 NHL DRAFT - Who does JB take.

Its so hard to predict who's going to be available at 7, but I went with Walhstrom for the first pick.

I think he'll take a D with his 2nd pick, and there are a lot of North American D currently ranked as late-1sts, so I'm gonna go with K'Andre Miller (which is really just a shot in the dark).

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

. Makes me wonder if they’d be willing to trade back to 7th? If the Canucks make that trade, who would you want at #3? If Kotkaniemi gets drafted at his ranking, he could even be available at the NYI 11/12 picks. That might be a worthwhile trade for NYI to trade up for an elite winger, but I don't ...

Tanev + Eriksson (50% retained for 1 year) + 7th overall + 2019 1st + Goldobin + Hutton + 2019 3rd Eriksson + Gaborik Gotta think there is zero chance we trade the 2019 1st when we are hosting the draft. Oh right. Good point. I forgot about that. New Jersey was hosting the draft when they did the S...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

Tryamkin got a lot of PIMs with the canucks as well. Physical hockey was never his problem. He didn't like being encouraged to goon or fight, or deliberately try to injure players like Pronger. But he was undoubtedly the most dangerous player every shift, because it took so little effort for him to ...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

The problem will be, the games in the KHL are not as intense and most assuredly not as hard hitting. Realize that's a generalization but I still think when he returns, he will again be taken back. Thing is, he'll be 3 years older. Hard-hitting hockey doesn't really affect Tryamkin. The bodychecks j...
