Re: “The Most Hated Team in Hockey” Circle the wagons.

I can understand why people don't like Kesler and Burrows - I would hate them if they were on an opposing team. But I can never understand the dislike of Bieksa, he plays the game hard and just seems in interviews to be a guy that is a fun guy to have around that knows how lucky he is. It just seems...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

2002-2011 has been a decent time to be a Canucks fan - they haven't won anything yet but there have been a lot of good players who have passed through. In fact I bet if you average out the past decade the Canucks will be one of the best teams in the league... granted St. Louis was also really good f...

Re: Hard to believe...

It's worth a flier to ask him if he wants to try out - if yes, give him a shot - if no, nothing is lost. I don't know what the rules with the CBA are but if that is allowed I am sure that Gillis would inquire about that route. At the same time who knows - maybe the guy is content in playing in Russi...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

Long time Canuck fans can relate to your predicament. I don't think I have seen a team as awful as the 1997-2000 Vancouver Canucks in a long time. The worst part was I was so optimistic that a team with the stars that they had was going to actually be good - really good and then of course they were...

Re: Was that Srsez who phoned Pratt ?

I know the topic moved in a completely opposite direction but after having been in the new BC Place (granted I was sitting in a suite so my vantage point may be somewhat biased) I think that the building would actually be pretty good for a quasi-outdoor game. Granted at the same time the climate isn...

Re: 11/12 Training Camp Thread

As much as I want Kesler back in the lineup - I want him to be 100% healthy beforehand even if it means taking an extra couple of weeks in order to get him back into game shape - the worst thing that could happen to the club would be for him to try and start pushing things to get into the games fast...

Re: Wade Belak found dead in his condo

Well if they say it is an accidental death via hanging then AEA is really the only thing that I think it could be - which doesn't make his death any less tragic but it somewhat does minimize the impact that it would have on the game of hockey. If they do find that it was a suicide however I would ha...

Re: Jack Layton Died Today

Even in death Jack Layton was trite - the best thing for his legacy was the fact that he never held any real power in the traditional sense, the highest title he had in Toronto was Deputy Mayor I believe and the highest position he had in federal politics was that he was a leader in the official opp...

Re: GM Mike Gillis vs the Toronto Star

I figure let bygones be bygones, agree with the Toronto Star to make a donation in Rypiens name to a help phone line or to a mental health unit on a hospital. It doesn't do the family of Rypien any good to have this stuff dragged through the papers anymore than it already has been. Plus what purpose...

Re: HST

Businesses save money in that it is much more simple to calculate HST and get everything in order HST wise rather than having two separate taxes and the associated accounting. There are also tax savings which would otherwise be passed on to the consumer in theory at least.

Re: HST

The only people who I think get a bit stiffed in this is the middle income earners who don't make enough for the quarterly HST rebate. The immediate and the most visible cost is the increase in cost in activities such as movies as you mentioned and other entertainment - however if someone qualifies ...

Re: HST

That is true - however with any referendum, especially one that involves a complex issue such as the HST (how many people have a good understanding of economics). Hell watching Vander Zalm ramble on about the subject shows that he doesn't have a clue either and he is supposed to be the educated ring...

Re: HST

This is the problem with referendums, they may be the truest form of democracy in a sense but the majority of the population doesn't know anything beyond snazzy catchphrases and logos and thus have no real idea what the true issues are. This is going to cost the government of BC as well as businesse...

Re: Rypien passes away

Good for Gillis and the Canucks organization as a whole - being able to put resources and more importantly, time, energy and attention towards overcoming the stigma associated with mental illnesses is admirable. Often times when something like this happens to a public figure it is swept under the ca...

Re: Is the Canuck Cupboard THAT Bare?

Remove any teams top picks and you could say that or worse though - you say lucky picks, I don't think you can pin it 100% on luck, I think they have top end scouting talent and they have enough talent in the developmental system that they can properly develop players - something that many teams are...
