Re: Vancouver's Hockey "Media"

I'm not gonna post all the stuff I'm hearing for Botch just two that caught my eye. Condolences from Torts of all people this morning at his presser, and Elias Pettersson was, I think, the first Canuck. Interesting on the players side of things, other than Elias, nobody seems to give a shit. Kinda ...

Re: Vancouver's Hockey "Media"

Gutted. I've got a 2 year old and couldn't imagine not being there for him as be grows up. Just feel so incredibly terrible for his family. I thought Botch was entertaining. I didn't always agree with him, but he was passionate and fun to listen/read. Canucks coverage won't be the same - he was real...

Re: Vancouver's Hockey "Media"

James Cybulski, Steve Darling and Mira Laurence announced as the morning show on Sportsnet 650. Cybulski has always been good, not so sure about Darling though. Comes across as a fan boy. Assuming guest quality is similar, I'll take that over Bro and Pratt any day of the week. Shouldn't be hard for...

Re: The Rebuild...

Hence the entire reason why Elmer is an idiot if he has no plans to try and move Edler to Dallas for the 3rd overall. Seriously, take back one of Niemi or Lehtonen as cap dump in return, they both have 1 year left. That alone is a boon to the team that just signed Bishop. I suspect Edler would waiv...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Surprised we weren't in on this - but then again Benning is all about character and Chiarelli may not have wanted to trade within the Pacific.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Detroit's been successful through great drafting and development - and so far I'm impressed with Benning's job in that regard even without a ton of picks. I think you ultimately build your team through the draft... either directly or indirectly. If we keep developing and signing prospects that gives...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

It's the combination of not having proven himself and expecting a top 6 role. He seems unwilling to take his 'lumps' which is concerning to me. No question he has a higher ceiling than McCann or Virtanen, I'm wary of giving up guys who have shown that maturity and deal with adversity like being scra...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

To get Drouin you have to give. He should be playing in the NHL right now. I said McCann but agree as a centre he is more valuable to us right now. Virtanen has shown potential but let's be honest, if he were a prospect for any other team we wouldn't trade a second for him. I'd rather trade him tha...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

I'd offer up Gaunce and a pick. Much more than that is too much for a guy who has proven nothing, feels entitled to a roster spot and didn't put up points in the AHL. Don't get me wrong - would like to have him - but wouldn't give up Horvat, McCann, or Virtanen at this point. Edit: Perhaps, Shinkaru...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Sounds like things are getting a bit interesting with Johansen in Columbus... "When training camp starts, that’s it," Kekalainen said. "After that, it’s guys who are there on tryouts or guys who are under contract. That’s it. That will be the only focus." "I've said it many, many times, that I think...

Re: Welcome to the Dark Side Minions: The Top Draft Prospect

I don't think Reinhart drops to 5. If someone is going to drop the most likely scenario is that ekblad/reinhart/bennett go top 3 as expected, then Calgary takes Ritchie and one of MDC and Draisaitl drops.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

You'd have to think with a new coach coming in that WPG stands pat for awhile and sees how things go under a new coach before trading away players like Kane (or Buff). Some things may change in WPG, especially if the coaches have similar assessments of the team and deficiencies, but I'm guessing tha...
