Re: Benning
Most of those guys can play wing and a few of them are a few years away. Trust me buddy, you're gonna fall in love with Bolland! I do like him as a player, I just don't see his addition as a need for this club right now. Hopefully Horvat can push Bonino down to the 3rd line and I like Matt...

Re: Benning
Why worry about "overpaying" when we have lots of caproom, almost a full roster (RFAs signed), rich owner. Iginla and Miller (trade Marko for a pick) on one-years deals. Bolland on a 7-year front-loaded deal (cap-hit - $4.5m) (NTC for the first 4 years). No probs amirite? :mex: I would take Iggy or...

Re: Benning
What I like about Jim Benning so far: Not afraid to tell players with NTCs to fuck off. Isn't afraid to make deals and understands when it's time to cut bait appropriately. Has a vision and is acting on it swiftly and he's improved the bottom 6 depth of the team in short order. What I'm skeptical ab...

Re: Luongo and Schneider Revisited (or is it continued?)
You don't think Cody would be sitting around waiting for an offer if he were a UFA, do you? It's not that I think Cody is this amazing player either... it's that I think he's better than what we got for him and what we've replaced him with. I get your gripe but Cody wouldn't be sitting around too l...

Re: Luongo and Schneider Revisited (or is it continued?)
But as if we couldn't have used Cody in the playoffs last year when Roy was invisible and the Canucks generated zero offense. The kid can shoot the puck, which with the exception of Kesler is a rare commodity up front for your Vancouver Canucks. Roy was softer and less skilled than Hodgson and we g...

Re: The Glass is Half Empty....
When you're terrible defensively and have absolutely no bite to your game, a PPG is really not that great. Christ, Kesler was putting up 75 points on the second line a couple years ago while being the best defensive forward in the league. And he could actually score goals. If their production slips...

Re: Luongo and Schneider Revisited (or is it continued?)
Beware of the short-season sample size. Cody had a hot start in the defensively porous Eastern conference coming out of a lockout and then only put up 13 points in his final 24 games. I went from being fairly high on Cody to suggesting the Canucks should trade him before they did, mainly because he'...

Re: The Glass is Half Empty....
What will be really disastrous is if the team invests heavily in improvements from their young players this season and that doesn't happen. If we don't have young players ready to seize important roles heading into 2014-15 this team will really be in trouble. Bingo. I've been saying that this is st...

Re: Handling the Prospects Correctly
After CoHo I'm not so hot on players going through the junior season again, with all the extra tournaments. That seems to be a far more brutal grind than people realize. I think its best for physically undeveloped players to get more time to grow and pack on muscle, but it seems to be marginally be...

Yes of course.dbr wrote:IMO it's Ryan Kesler's health but those two are the next biggest for me.
I was assuming (blindly mind you) that Kes will be healthy. But even if he's rolling, we will have trouble going on a deep run if we don't have an effective third option.

Re: Roster Questions
I'm not sure if Kassian is ready for permanent top 6 duty but unless Gaunce or Horvat can play the 3rd line C role that includes lots of defensive responsibilities, it will fall on Kesler's line to be the shut-down crew again. If that's the case, I would like to see a Higgins-Kesler-Burrows line. Bu...

Re: 2013 FA Thread
Disagree coco, they were stymied in the neutral zone with turnovers between their own blueline and centre. The transition through the neutral zone stunk most of the year. A great deal of that can be attributed to only having one or two NHL calibre centres dressed for a given game and missing winger...

Re: 2013 FA Thread
When the team was playing well, the D, particularly Edler and Bieksa, were key components of the offensive pressure through intelligent passes, smart pinches, and accurate shots on net. I agree with most of your points but the AV system was dominated by defensemen contributing offensively, both in ...

Re: Roster Questions
If Gaunce or Lain can't crack the line-up, where is the infusion of size to the bottom 6 coming from? Sestito is big but I'll be impressed if he stick with this team the entire season, let alone next year. I'd like Weise better if he were the 13th forward, not expected to be a staple on the 4th. I t...
