Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Projects? So you know the endgame already? If you know something about the grand Master Plan that explains how the players Benning drafted in 2018 are not part of the palette for the Masterpiece, but are just valuable trade assets to be flipped for something else as the plan comes to fruition, plea...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Did Benning trade his 6th pick? Can’t see the pick on the SN tracker.

A project, IMO. If he turns out to be a serviceable middle 6 forward, okay. Dunno about this pick.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

If Karlsson is the return, then I have zero problem with the 2019 1st bring in play. Ottawa has no first next year, and desperately needs one. Canucks will at the very least vault out of the lottery, if not into the playoffs, with Karlsson. I would also gladly take Anderson off their hands. He has ...

Re: 2018 NHL DRAFT - Who does JB take.

Scouting reports I’ve read on Woo remind me of a young Bieksa. If he replaces what Bieksa did (dunno if he’ll chuck them like Kev) then it’s a win for Benning and Co.

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

Edler Karlsson Hughes Gudbranson :mex: Why would you do that to Hughes? Actually, he wouldn’t be a bad pick to ride shotgun for the kid. Just clear the crease, give it to him for the breakout and be the safety net if he jumps up. Anybody wants to rough him up, step in. Hughes would be skating miles...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Now that I’m on the other side of the pond and woke up to the pick, I’m still digesting it. First thought is wow, lotta reaches all over the first round. Kinda surprised Detroit didn’t go for their homeboy defender, but how do they not pick Zadina? Benning got the defenseman he wanted not named Dahl...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

I wonder with some of this Tanev talk heating up, they think Bouchard is gonna be their guy. Sounds like he’s ready to make the jump. Short term gain at expense of long-term potential in that event. I'm still unconvinced that Bouchard's skating will improve to the point he can leverage his other sk...

Re: 2018 NHL DRAFT - Who does JB take.

I went with Wahlstrom just on a hunch that he will fall into Benning's lap as the picks are made ahead of him, and the kid is somebody that I think would fit Benning's BPA approach. For the 2nd round, I would go with Matthias Samuelsson, though if Hallander or Oloffson are available they may be take...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Hoffman gone. https://www.tsn.ca/senators-trade-hoffman-to-sharks-1.1116853 No surprise. And gone again.. Sharks trade Hoffman to Panthers for a bunch of picks I'd say Ottawa got the better end of this series of deals. Boedkker is no slouch, even if he won't score as much as Hoffman. The head-scrat...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Dobson or Boqvist would be fine by me. Now watch both of them get picked before #7 If both get picked before #7, likely means that Wahlstrom will be available. That would be fine by me as well. I guess it would get interesting if the top names on the Canucks list get snapped up prior to #7, and the...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 17-18 Sponsored by SKYO

Now that he has his brood (wife & 4 kids), rooted in Van., No-way he's going anywhere for two more seasons. After that, he gives a list of 15 teams he won't go to. I wonder why I have this vexatious feeling his play strikingly improves over two years. Oh well, doesn't matter, I understand Jim Benni...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 17-18 Sponsored by SKYO

Can we stop with the Karlsson trade ideas? Given the state of the team, this is the last kind of deal Benning should make. The net benefit he would provide considering what Benning would have to give up would possibly get the team to the playoffs, but he wouldn’t make them a contender. By the time t...
