Re: Francesco Ballard

Yeah, I’m not getting good vibes from the Aquabros either - Frankie in particular. The difference is that Ballard was a cheapskate dinosaur. Frankie and his crew aren’t afraid to dig into their deep pockets and are open to new ideas (although more like distracted squirrels than anything else). Frank...

Re: 2019 NHL ENTRY DRAFT - Vancouver

I say we’ll pull a Philly and win the lottery with the shittiest odds we’ve had since the lottery format and draft Hughes the Younger.

Re: Trevor Linden is stepping down in VAN

Without Hughes we're basically the same team this year as last. An elite skating defenseman can make or break a team usually...and its going to be another "break" scenario unfortunately. Yeah, its not like the Canucks are adding two former top 6 draft picks into their lineup this year or anything.....

Re: Trevor Linden is stepping down in VAN

I’ve seen elsewhere that Linden was pushed out as a result of Benning and Weisbrod siding with whatever position the owners had (not sure which side of the play-kids-get-picks/sign-vets-compete-for-playoffs they are really on anymore). I don’t put too much stock in that narrative, but if true I woul...

Re: Trevor Linden is stepping down in VAN

The Aquaman’s MO sure has been to have a replacement picked before he fires someone. That’s why I’m putting more stock in Trevor quitting and it caught owners by surprise. They tried to push him to sway in a direction he didn’t agree with so he walked. I do believe Trev’s enough of a man of princip...

Re: Trevor Linden is stepping down in VAN

a) Who does Aqua-man think he is, Donald Trump? What's with the twitter thing? It'd be nice to see him hold a press conference, speaks directly to the fans/ticket holders and field some tough questions from the media. This is the new paradigm for mass communication: bypass the mainstream media and ...

Ray Ferraro? Geoff Courtnall? Somethings up. Trevor didn’t jump he got shoved
Be interesting to see who comes in. I don’t think Trevor got shoved, so much as he saw which way the winds were blowing and bowed out before it could get ugly.

Jarome Iginla retires today.

Hell of a career!

Hate the Flames but like Jarome. Pure class all the way
Hard to hate the guy. The battles between him and Ohlund were something to behold. Best wishes to him in retirement.

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

I see this upcoming season as one where the youngsters grow to take the lead now that the twins are gone, and lay the foundation to compete for the playoffs - but fall short. EP, Juolevi and, hopefully, Hughes will get their feet wet. I fully anticipate the likes of Dahlen and Gaudette to at least g...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

I’ll be interested to see how Palmu and Gadjovich do in camp just to see how they stack up with the regulars. I don’t see them getting a sniff till next year at least, but do think they’ll play in Vancouver at some point. Utica should be fun to watch this year.

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

Our 1st, Juolevi and Gaudette for Karlsson… yeahno. Two years from now with maybe Rathbone instead of Gaudette and Juolevi and our 2023 1st rounder and I would see some logic in such a deal. Considering where this roster is at in its life cycle, dealing for Karlsson now is premature. I say no to Kar...

Re: What to do with Hughes

I’m for making room for him on the big league roster. My concern with sending him back to NCAA is that he may plateau in his development. It would be good for him to spend the extra time in the gym, but I’m sure Boeser and Gaudette would agree that it’s a significant leap in caliber of play going to...

More posters, the merrier. Not buying the sock conspiracy theories being bandied about by some around here. Welcome!

I don’t have the highest expectations for this upcoming season, I’m willing to bet the next draft will be the last one where Benning will be wondering about his lottery odds.

Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread

Using offer sheets to put teams in cap hell is the most commonly-conceived rationale, and it does make sense. However, offer-sheeting players to pry them out may be just as viable when you’re talking about a player like Matthews. Yeah, Lou would give up a handful of 1st round picks, but in that case...

Re: Canuck News and Notes - 2018-2019

Beagle’s term is a bit long, but cap hit is what you pay for at this time of year. He looks like your prototypical bottom-six checking centre. Good signing. I wonder if his performance next season may make Sutter expendable? If Roussel provides 70% of what Dorsett gave, then chalk it up in the win c...
