What about #7 for Hanifin?
Depending, of course, on who is left at #7, that could be the best use of the pick.

I'd do it if Tkachuk were the BPA remaining at #7.

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Yes, all things being equal, you chose a centre or dman over a winger. Doesn’t sound like other son of Keith are in his plans. But all things wouldn't be equal if Tkachuk was still there. :D Jimmy will take Tkachuk if he's available at 7... I'd bet dollars on it. Good point. Depending upon what Dme...

Re: Canucks News and Notes 2017-2018

Says he's up to 177 lbs now and can begin full training in 3 weeks (when thumb is healed). Still looks very frail in that photo. I hope DHA's projections about what can be accomplished in a summer of training are more accurate than mine. Also, whether or not there remains a general role for an enfo...

Re: Playoffs

A physical #5 dman who can step into the top 4 on occasion when necessary could be considered a significant asset. He can't be both a "significant asset" and a "throw in". I'm happy with either one, and you get to pick, but it can't be both. That's just not logically consistent. Wrong. He can be a ...

Re: Playoffs

Obviously the 1st rounder and Bonino were the main pieces. But you were focused on Sbisa, what happened? :D I was focused on Sbisa as an indicator of the Canucks' ownership/management group's ability to manage an asset. Your argument seems to be based on the accounting principle of materiality, tha...

Re: Playoffs

"Worth exposing in draft" and "throw-in depth defenceman" both work out to the same thing: not a very valuable player. OK then we agree: the right player to expose. But that being the case, clearly that shows that Benning didn't get much value for Kesler in the trade, if one of the pieces was (demo...

Re: Playoffs

Either he was an asset worth having and losing another player in the draft , or he was a player worth exposing in the draft. Sbisa was a throw-in depth-defenseman in the Kesler trade, the kind of player teams tend to give up in an expansion draft. "Worth exposing in draft" and "throw-in depth defen...

Re: Playoffs

Canucks needed a physical #5 dman so they had Sbisa included in the Kesler trade as a throw-in. Giving up a physical #5 dman in the expansion draft is pretty good considering what other teams gave up. BTW is a physical #5 dman who can fill-in in the top-4 a "good player" or a "poor player"?? :? (or...

Re: Playoffs

No assessment of Sbisa's ability favours the ownership/management group that made him part of the Canucks organization. If he is a good player, then they were savvy in getting him as part of the Kesler trade, but fools to leave him exposed. If he is a poor player, then they were wise to expose him, ...

Anders Nilsson is a WORLD CHAMPION.

Trade him for a 1st rounder.
That would be genius-level asset management.

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

But I agree with the sentiment that you should draft the PBA. Fortunately we have a lot of needs  so whoever we get will be ok. For a team with as many needs as the Canucks, I think that at least part of the definition of "best" player is the one with highest trade value. In that sense, fo...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 17-18 Sponsored by SKYO

But the Canucks are a top 3 team the 2 of the past 3 seasons and in the top 5 the other season for forwards/defensemen games lost to injury. I don't know how much is something controllable (e.g., training causing injuries or bad training exposing to injury), uncontrollable but not random (e.g., cor...
